White on white: what weave is used?

Dobby weave

Warp-faced satin weave

Filling-faced satin weave

Crepeback weave

White on white relies on texture to create variation when the color is the same on both sides. Crepeback weave gives you two distinct surfaces on one fabric: a smooth, satin-like face and a crepe-textured back. When both sides are kept white, the look comes from this textural contrast rather than color, so the fabric reads as “white on white.” The other weaves don’t inherently provide a two-sided texture difference: dobby weaves add small geometric patterns, and warp- or filling-faced satin mainly emphasize a shiny surface on one face rather than a contrasting back texture.
